A HISTORY OF SUPPORT | The farming industry, like may other industries, is built on Support. That support comes in many shapes and sizes but has one overarching goal, to further increase the customers chances for success. Our mission at Schafer Metal Stake, Inc. (SMS) is to be a part of that support staff for the customer and provide them with the best opportunity for success through our various products and development systems. Started in 1978 by Corky Schafer, his vision for this mission set the table for where we are today. SMS started as a grape stake manufacturer, providing replacement stakes, crossarms and stakes for new developments to local farmers. As the farming industry grew, so did the need for products that fit the needs and timelines of the customer. In 1985 Corky’s son-in-law, Don Farnesi, took over management of the plant and its operations and sales. Projects began to expand further than the local market to all parts of California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, parts of the Middle East and Central and South America. In 2006Don and his wife Cheryl, Corky’s daughter, purchased the company and was able to set their mission based on the vision that Corky had set into motion. Today, SMS is in the same location from which they started operations in 1978, run by Don and Cheryl and their son, Dean and sets to continue its commitment and dedication to both the quality and needs of the customer. SMS aims to set a precedent on these commitments through knowledge, honesty and integrity in all aspects of the business. Through our product and development systems, we are able to be the customers support structure as they succeed in a growing industry.
